Volunteer Support
Volunteers support the work of professional staff and play an integral role in palliative care. By giving freely of their time to patients and care-givers, volunteers experience the satisfaction of serving others. Volunteering has many positive benefits for the volunteer- their quality of life and health is improved and they feel a sense of fulfillment and purpose through the simple act of donating their time to help others.
There are various ways that volunteers can help in the area of hospice/palliative care – listening to patients and families, providing comfort during emotional times, enjoying a cup of tea/coffee with patients and families, hearing a patient’s life stories, or sharing a laugh with the patients and family. There is also the opportunity to help with some practical issues such as light baking, errands, dish-washing, driving clients to doctor appointments and taking them grocery shopping or even just out for a drive if they feel up to it.
Depending on your area of interest, there may be additional specialty training required in order to volunteer.
Please consider volunteering. Follow your passion, bring your enthusiasm, your energy, be positive, have fun.

Celebrating Our Volunteers at Bobby’s Hospice
Volunteers are an incredible part of our team at Bobby’s Hospice. They add immense value to the non-clinical care we provide to our patients and their families. We’re excited to introduce you to two of our dedicated volunteers, Laura and Rosalie, who have been with us for quite some time! Here’s what they have to say about why they chose to volunteer at Bobby’s Hospice.
Rosalie and Laura agree that it’s the “right place to be!” Many people think Bobby’s Hospice is a place of doom and gloom given that people are dealing with dying. What they and others discover when they come here is that so much of the focus of care is on living in a warm, comforting and caring environment.
“Love lives here,” they say. They marvel at how equally people are treated at Bobby’s Hospice, regardless of economic backgrounds and differences. “Everyone is loved for who they are, and it is amazing to watch families connect and share deep bonds that continue to exist beyond their time at Bobby’s Hospice.”
A special place of care with nice energy that has a positive impact on all who have the privilege to be there is how they describe Bobby’s Hospice. Coming to Bobby’s Hospice to be with others and fill up their cups is as compelling as the need to go to Tim Hortons for coffee they say with a smile and a laugh. “We love what we get back from volunteering.”
